2018 - 2020
The dot Nuqta is the basis of Arabic calligraphy, it is the unit of measurement from which all letterforms originate. The collection is thus named Nuqta as the exhibited artworks all derive from a common denominator, the Nuqta.
The artworks explore the extent of forms and notions that can be drawn from one single square, a dot. From the dot, multiple shapes, threads and concepts emanate, raising questions about the relation of the human being with the universe, about the secrets and mysteries of life and the human role in this life, from a philosophical and mystic perspective.
The Nuqta collection was first exhibited at the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial that took place in April 2018 where Hawila represented Lebanon. A series of artworks was later added to the collection when it was exhibited at the French Institute in Beirut in February 2020.
