Ink on parking ticket - MAY 2019

This series of artworks evokes a sense of belonging and strongly relays the reality of living in Beirut. The parking tickets, which serve as canvases, have been collected by Hawila from the same neighborhood where he has been living for the last few years and where it is often difficult to find a parking spot, like in most of the streets of Beirut.

The expression Mamnou’ Al Wokouf in Arabic goes beyond the meaning “No Parking”, as it also denotes that it is forbidden to stop. Repeated in bold red, the phrase implies a challenge of always moving forward and evolving, which resonates personally with the artist who keeps experimenting and creating.

Represented during a collective exhibition held by Art of Change in Beirut
