“If you abandon me, then who is left for me?
And who will make me beautiful?
And who will be there for my soul and comfort?
You are the most of me and the least of me
I loved You with a part of me
So You took all of me
You are my all so be mine
If You are not mine, then who could be?
You are my all and my kin
At times of isolation and humiliation
I have nothing but my soul
So take it, it is what the poor can give”
– Al Hallaj
This painting conveys the yearning for divine love and for dissolving the soul in unity with Allah which is expressed in one of the most popular poems of Al Hallaj. The words move in a whirling motion reminiscing the meditative dance of the Sufi dervishes.
It was featured in the Doha Youth Innovation Award in 2020.
