On this wall in Hamra main street in Beirut, the Lebanese national anthem was written in Ruqaa’ style.
This style was chosen for its strong character, delicate simplicity and vernacular beauty, although it is often unappreciated among calligraphers. Its characteristics are closely similar to those of the Lebanese national anthem, charming in its simplicity while expressing resilient patriotism, which is becoming neglected and undervalued with time.
The work was part of Byblos Bank’s national campaign for Independence Day 2018, dedicated to honoring the national anthem as a main element of unity of the Lebanese people.
